Facial Treatment

Let your beauty shining through on your skin

A facial is a deep cleaning treatment that restores a healthy, clear complexion. While there are many types of facials, the most common procedure involves cleansing the skin to lift and remove any dead skin and massaging the face to relax muscles and promote elasticity.

This treatment is recommended for people who would like to start a skincare regime, or improve their already existent skincare routine. Getting a facial with a beautician enhances the skin and makes the best out of the routine you do at home.

Basic facials are best for those who want to improve their skin health in a simple, traditional way. You have the option of a basic facial (no needles, non-invasive and painless procedure) or for those who want to further their treatment, we also offer personalized advanced facials with incomparable results, too.

Whatever you pick, you will immediately reap the benefits and feel comfortable, confident and content.

What are HFTs? HFT (or High Frequency Treatment) is a painless treatment that reduces inflammation while removing harmful bacteria from the skin after waxing. Without treatment, these bacteria can cause complaints such as ingrowing hairs, acne, the formation of fine lines and wrinkles, as well as heightened skin sensitivity and a range of other related problems. HFTs promote blood circulation, while stimulating collagen production, trengthening nutrient supply, relaxing muscles and relieving tension and pain in the body.   HFTs can also improve a patient’s skin tone and texture while reducing the appearance of acne and hyperpigmentation and most clients report softer skin.    How do HFTs work? HFTs use a small glass electrode to generate a mild and painless electrical current that follows the contours of the body and face. This enriches oxygen molecules in the skin and promotes thermal tissue warming to flush out toxins from the blood vessels. HFTs enrich the skin cells by improving nutrition and hydration. In turn, this then promotes cell renewal, improves blood circulation and increases the body’s natural elastin and collagen production.

The history behind High Frequency. In the late 1800’s, renowned scientist Nikola Tesla developed the first High Frequency appliance which was referred to as the “Violet Ray”. This appliance was solely used for medical purposes (including the treatment of strep throat, infections and to speed up the healing of wounds) despite the other possible functions. In 1892, French biophysicist Jacques-Arsène d’Arsonval introduced the use of high frequency currents to treat diseases of the skin and mucous membranes after working in the area of Electrotherapy. It was only until the 1970’s when people discovered the cosmetic benefits of the electrical stimulation and within a few years, the technology was deemed a very safe and non-invasive approach to skincare and was used worldwide.

Pre-Treatment

Preparation

It is important that when you come to your appointment, you have clean skin with minimal added product. It is important that the skin area is intact and healthy before your session takes place. We highly recommend NOT to eat spicy foods and caffeine during the week leading up to your appointment. These will increase skin sensitivity and can cause flare ups for any existing skin conditions. It is important to hydrate. Drinking plenty of water helps unwanted hair slide out more easily. It is important to gently exfoliate your skin before your treatment as this opens up the follicles and lets the unwanted hair slide out more easily. You are allowed to ONLY shave between treatments but never any other hair removal techniques. It is important to avoid plucking, waxing, threading, or tweezing before your hair removal appointment as this reduces the number of hairs your electrologist can remove. The hair grows in cycles so you may need more treatments but your electrologist will go through this with you.

Post-treatment

Aftercare

It is important that you keep the area clean and dry for the first 48 hours post treatment. AloeVera gel should be applied liberally using clean, damp cotton wool immediately after electrolysis to soothe, calm redness and prevent infection. We recommend continuing to apply Aloe Vera gel for the next 21 days. Do not pick spots or small blood scabs which may appear a couple of days after treatment and depending on the skin, may take between 7–21 days to heal. These are normal after your electrolysis treatment and are part of the healing process. For clients who have long hair, to reduce the risk of infected follicles, keep hair tied back off the face. When washing or cleansing use gentle unperfumed cream cleanser or facial wash, we recommend not using soap on the treated area as this will further dry the skin. Do not pluck, tweeze, thread or remove hair with wax or depilatory cream remover between electrolysis treatments, as this will interrupt the hair growth cycle. It is safer to simply trim any noticeable unwanted hair with scissors. Avoid any perfumes, fake tan or other harsh chemicals for 72 hours after treatment. Try to avoid any makeup for 48 hours after treatment as this can increase the risk of infection. Avoid any skin exfoliation for 72 hours following treatment. Avoid any products that contain alpha hydroxy acids, retinol, and glycolic acid for at least 7 days after treatment. Avoid extreme exercise, saunas, sunbeds and exposure to heat for 72 hours after treatment. These can cause sweating which can irritate the delicate skin and slow down your ability to heal quickly. Avoid swimming for 72 hours after treatment. We highly recommend avoiding any excess alcohol or caffeine and spicy foods for 48 hours after treatment. Wear SPF 30 or greater sunscreen for at least 2 weeks following treatment as your skin will be more sensitive to sunlight afterwards. Avoid any further cosmetic treatments e.g. Botox or dermal filler for 2 weeks following treatment, or ask your practitioner for advice. Avoid any heated treatments for 72 hours(very hot showers, saunas, heated swimming pools, jacuzzis, heated steam facial, etc.).

Frequently Asked Questions:

What does a facial do?
A facial is a set of skin care treatments for your face with the goal of exfoliating your skin, removing impurities, and dead skin. It is usually performed in beauty salons, day spas, and sometimes even in your dermatologist's office. There are some dermatologists who employ estheticians in their private practice.

What are some benefits of getting facials?
Increased circulation (facials help to renew skin cells by circulating the blood flow under the skin, which then can decrease puffiness and fluid build up that comes from our lymphatic system); Deep cleansing; Anti-aging and Relaxation.

How long do the effects of a facial last?
Facials are one of the oldest treatments in the world for good reason – the results of this treatment can last for several weeks and enhance the tone, texture, and overall appearance of your skin. Usually, the results of the facial will last for about four to six weeks for most skin types.
