Chemical Peel

Reveal the best version of yourself

Chemical peels allow the skin to renew itself by using a powerful blend of ingredients and naturally occurring acids to exfoliate dead skin cells and encourage new ones to grow as well as promoting collagen production leaving you with new, youthful, healthy skin.

The peel leaves the fresh layer of skin firmer and smoother as well as feeling softer. Chemical peels are great for those who struggle with fine lines and wrinkles, unwanted skin texture and acne; as well as other skin issues. Because the peel eliminates the dead skin cells and replaces them with new ones, the appearance of open pores is reduced as well as skin blemishes, pigmentation which leaves you with visibly smoother skin.

It is important to note that you don’t need to have ‘problem skin’ to reap the advantages of this treatment. Everyone can benefit from skin renewal, in fact, chemical peels are a great preventative measure for those who don’t want a somewhat more ‘invasive’ treatment. This is a very common treatment given its miraculous results especially for lifestyle factors that are hard to tackle such as sun damage and air pollution. Whatever your reasoning is, we are happy to help you achieve your desired look.

What are HFTs? HFT (or High Frequency Treatment) is a painless treatment that reduces inflammation while removing harmful bacteria from the skin after waxing. Without treatment, these bacteria can cause complaints such as ingrowing hairs, acne, the formation of fine lines and wrinkles, as well as heightened skin sensitivity and a range of other related problems. HFTs promote blood circulation, while stimulating collagen production, trengthening nutrient supply, relaxing muscles and relieving tension and pain in the body.   HFTs can also improve a patient’s skin tone and texture while reducing the appearance of acne and hyperpigmentation and most clients report softer skin.    How do HFTs work? HFTs use a small glass electrode to generate a mild and painless electrical current that follows the contours of the body and face. This enriches oxygen molecules in the skin and promotes thermal tissue warming to flush out toxins from the blood vessels. HFTs enrich the skin cells by improving nutrition and hydration. In turn, this then promotes cell renewal, improves blood circulation and increases the body’s natural elastin and collagen production.

Pre-Treatment

Preparation

Ensuring that you come to your session with clean skin. This means your practitioner has a clear base to work with and no impurities are on the skin. The week leading up to your treatment, it is imperative to stay hydrated and drink more water than you normally do. If you do not drink a higher quantity of water at least 5 days before your treatment, there is a higher chance that blood could clot during the procedure which would mean the treatment can not be done. Hydrating your body means hydrating your skin and this will minimise any breakouts or skin issues that can arise subsequent to your treatment. We recommend NOT to eat spicy foods and caffeine during the week leading up to your appointment. These will increase skin sensitivity and can cause flare ups for any existing skin conditions. Maintain a healthy diet. This not only helps you feel your best, but the quality of your blood will also be much better; giving you better results too. Avoid using exfoliating products at least 4 days before your facial. Avoid experimenting with new facial products and changing your skin routine (if you have one).

Post-treatment

Aftercare

The treated area of skin may feel slightly tender and appear red and swollen afterwards, appearances may be similar to mild sunburn. These effects will resolve naturally and should be much improved after 48 hours but may take longer to settle. You may experience some minor bruising which may take 1-2 weeks to resolve in some cases. • Cold compress can be helpful to aid resolution of swelling, Arnica cream can be helpful for bruising resolution. • If you experience any mild discomfort you can take some simple over the counter painkillers such as paracetamol. • You may experience localised tenderness, swelling or bruising from where your blood sample was taken. Bruising may take up to 2 weeks to fully resolve. • Use a mild cleanser with tepid water to clean your face for 3 days after the treatment and gently dry the treated area. Keep your hands clean when touching your face. • Avoid any perfumes, fake tan or other harsh chemicals for 72 hours after treatment. • Avoid any makeup for 24 hours after treatment as this can increase the risk of infection. • Avoid rubbing or picking the treated area. • Avoid any skin exfoliation for 72 hours following treatment. • It is important to use a regular moisturising cream around two to three times a day on the treated area. Use more regularly if you feel the skin dry or peeling. • Avoid any products that contain alpha hydroxy acids, retinol, and glycolic acid for at least 7 days after treatment. • Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, sunbeds and exposure to heat for 72 hours after treatment. These can cause sweating which can irritate the delicate skin and slow down your ability to heal quickly. • Avoid swimming for 72 hours after treatment. • Avoid any excess alcohol or caffeine for 48 hours after treatment. • Wear SPF 30 or greater sunscreen for at least 2 weeks following treatment as your skin will be more sensitive to sunlight afterwards. • Avoid any further cosmetic treatments e.g. Botox or dermal filler for 2 weeks following treatment, or ask your practitioner for advice. • Avoid any hair removal treatments such as waxing for 2 weeks after treatment or until the initial redness and swelling has resolved.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How does a chemical peel work?
A chemical peel uses a chemical solution to improve the appearance of your skin. During the treatment, the chemical solution is applied to your skin, which causes your existing layer of skin to break down and eventually peel off revealing more youthful skin. This will happen over a few days after your session. The new skin is usually smoother with fewer lines and wrinkles, has a more even skin tone and is brighter in complexion.

How does a chemical peel improve my skin?
Chemical peels can reduce and improve many skin concerns including fine lines and wrinkles, acne, scars, uneven skin colouring and other skin imperfections. You will work with your practitioner to uncover the issues you feel you have with your skin and what you want to achieve from your session. Your practitioner will determine a personalised session and use what is best for your skin as different chemicals determine the depth of your peel and type of skin condition treated.
